Meeting the recruiting goals for the VFW is vital.  The United States has past its peak of veterans and long term budget shoring has combat veterans serving multiple tours vs rotation to reduce the number of veterans who will qualify for benefits long term.   Veterans represent only 3% of the United States population as a whole, but their activity at 15 million strong makes them a minority vote that must be dealt with by both parties.   The VFW takes on the challenges of ensuring that our active duty personal have the gear they require for combat as well as the resolve to ensure widows and orphans are cared for at home.  Bringing more warriors home alive is the best way to obtain the later goal, and its why we encourage anyone who has served 60 days in a combat zone to join the VFW and let yourself be heard in Washington D.C.  where the silent majority is considered irrelevant.
